Can we have a way to add advanced notifications to the default notifications

We recently have made changes to the way our system handles category notifications via advanced notifications so that it's okay if regular users have them.

Previously I had always heard that there was no way to opt-in users to category notifications with backend config settings whereas you can with the regular notification preferences.

Is this absolutely positively true? Is there really no way that a config setting could make some categories the default?

It's currently causing me issues with a prospect who really wants an easy way for their customers to be notified by new posts in the release notes category. Bookmarking a thread wasn't satisfactory for them.

Any ideas?

  • If there is a config, or we implement one, I want to add these notes to conversation:

From a support perspective, clients who auto opt-in their members to too much in the past have burdened us with complaining end users, and are more likely to have end users just mark our emails as spam. Spam blocks in sendgrid caused a lot of confusion in our last security event, since that also prevents password reset emails from getting to the user.

I'm assuming release notes will come at a regular interval and be appreciated by the end users, but if we end up with a toggle for this, we should still exercise caution when flipping it on or suggesting it to clients.
