In the Discussion Module modifications

Hi,

I had this question asked by a client and wasn't sure on how to customize it. Any idea?

For the “In This Discussion” module, I see it adds the functionality to the standard Panel asset. When I try to assign the module within the custom template (not as part of the panel), I get an error. Is there a tag I can use to embed it in a different area within our template?
