Integrating when Hubspot is the CRM
Given how many different products Hubspot offers we tend to run into them quite a bit. They can be a CMS, a CRM, a marketing automation software, even a ticketing system.
I often get asked if we integrate with Hubspot specifically. We don't have an OOTB integration but I was wondering is Single-Sign-On the way in which we would 'integrate' with their Hubspot CRM?
The users aren't logging in to Hubspot so how does that work? Does it depend on how their SSO is set up?
Would it mean that if they managed their login and users registered for their app lets say, it would add them as a contact to their CRM and they could also log in seamlessly to the forum if SSO was set up?
Would it also mean if they AREN'T using SSO then any user who directly registers to the forum will NOT be added to their CRM as a contact?

So there are two parts:
- Identifying
- Tracking
I'll tackle the tracking part first. People are tracked in Hubspot once they fill in a form with an email, a cookie is created and connects to their profile of that email. It's as simple as them adding the tracking script to a pocket.
The identifying who that person is the tricky part. If they have no way to get that persons email and push into Hubspot, i.e. the only place they ask people that info, then the issue is this person is not identified. If they are using SSO, to their existing site, it's likely they've already taken care of the connection, the cookie will be created, and this person will be tracked in the community.
A couple of years ago we had Hubspot as a customer, and this is how they tackled it and how many others do as well. It's very easy to test. They create an account in their system, visit the community and see if the pageviews they make are associated to that account.
I did create a Hubspot plugin, which has been deployed on Robotiq, that would connect email in cases where SSO is not present. It requires the customer to have an Enterprise Hubspot account. I would also caution it could use a relook/rewrite in the future, so I would prefer it go to service before deployed on a larger instance.
Hope that helps - let me know any questions.
