Category As Link Addon - Helps partially solve one problem related to subcommunities
We often see clients opt to decide their product by subcommunity if they feel like they are distinct enough brands/product lines. To some degree the problem has often been that we lack a sort of true widgetized 'homepage' that can be used as a hub that links out to the the other subcommunities. You always have to set at least 1 subcommunity as the 'default' and if the products are subcommunities, which one is the 'default'.
One potential interim solution is the Category as Link addon:
If you look at demo site you can see I've essentially done this by designating one subcommunity as 'homepage and making it the default. I then used this addon to make categories link out to the other subcommunities.
Someone with enough CSS ingenuity could figure something out to perhaps present these nested categories as tiles and shore up the rest of it. The only thing I think that might be a little wonky is the breadcrumbs once you click into a subcommunity. However, you could always make your banner logo or some link at the top called home that brings you back to that original default subcommunity.
The Glu set up is one I think some clients want but sometimes have trouble achieving. This could help.
Does anyone see any thoughts/issues with using this addon like this?

We already have plans for widgetized home pages and the ability to have homes pages for subcommunities. The question is when will that get prioritized. The CAB can push for this feature to get prioritized.
