How to Highlight Blog Style Content across Subcommunities in scalable fashion (King)

This is for our client King who is currently engaging us in a POC until the end of the year with the option for a large renewal. If you recall the speech Joe gave in PC, this is a really big opportunity for us and I can't drive this project alone.

The client's question/comment:

We are considering where to put the Blog content we have in KingCare in the Vanilla Forum. We have been discussing this with the Content team, which is ran by a separate team than Graham's. Currently, the content we have basically supports content (tutorials and technical posts) although we could be looking at creating more engaging content that would probably be relevant for the Discussion category Lidia has considered in the designs. There are conversations about where this content should sit, where it is relevant to be shown and whether the blog should have its section completely or we can have it sitting in different categories within the subcommunity and we just use some sort of taxonomy to highlight that content as posted through the King Blog.

This is the context of where my question in the previous task comes from, since for instance if we just have a Blog side of the subcommunity (it would be a category maybe?) then we would still want to highlight some of the content within that category in other categories (for instance if the content team does a blog post around a tutorial for the game, we would like to highlight that content in the support category.

At the same time, the content team sometimes creates blog posts for specific incidents we have that affect all games, and as such they are global and not subcommunity related.

The client is setup with language-based nodes and each game is its own subcommunity. I am trying to figure out the best way to handle this. We're apparently migrating their blog as discussions.

What do we think is the best idea? For context, we are building them a carousel with 3 images that are swapped by them and is done on the subcommunity level. Perhaps there could be a pocket that is global for the instance that can be swapped with an image/link and that will link to a blog style post (that is a discussion) in a subcommunity that is separate from all the other subcommunities. Perhaps that subcommunity is /blog /news/ or /home. I've proposed that to them but I am unclear if there any more elegant solutions available or better ideas from you guys.

  • Category is a good idea. Then they can configure the carousel to have whatever link they want. If they do want to have slides that are global to the node and other that are not, they do need to figure out what they want exactly. Is it first slide global and then 2 local?
