A Few Words on the Feed Discussions Plugin (FDp)

  1. Checking "Import Older Posts" will only import posts that currently exist in the RSS feed. Generally, RSS feeds only contain the 10-20 most recent updates on a site.
  2. Target Category can be an existing category, or one set up specifically for the feed. I saw some speculation on a ticket that it wouldn't work with an empty category, but that's not true. I can see how that conclusion was reached because of the next points.
  3. Refresh does not happen automatically. When you first add a feed to your test site, you may think the plugin is broken because it does not show you an updated timestamp.
  4. Refresh happens only when someone posts a discussion anywhere on the site. The workflow must look something like this:
    1. Member posts a discussion
    2. FDp check to see when the last update was
    3. If more time has elapsed since the last update than is indicated under refresh, FDp refreshes the feed

This is why you might visit your test site several days after setting up a feed and think it broken, because it hasn't updated. Go post a discussion on your site, however, and you'll notice it updates shortly thereafter (if not immediately).
