PhpStorm Tip: Viewing inline Git blame

PhpStorm allows you to view Git blame in the gutter. It's effective and allows you to easily jump to the commit for a particular line. But...it's chunky and creates a lot of visual "noise" in the editor, so I'm not inclined to leave it open. My ideal implementation of Git blame in the IDE is something that allows me to passively see why a line changed and when. This is where GitToolBox comes in.

GitToolBox is a PhpStorm plug-in that enhances the IDE's native Git support. Among its features is adding inline Git blame in the editor. Additionally, you can customize the format of the blame printout (Preferences - Other Settings - GitToolBox Global). One of these options is setting the associated date format to be relative.

The result is informative and unobtrusive, which is exactly what I've been looking for.
