Office Reopening and Working from Home

As mentioned in the staff meeting, we're hoping to reopen our offices in late summer or early fall. Given our success working remotely during the pandemic, we want to support three different work options:

  1. Full-time at home where you might travel to the office a few times per year
  2. Part-time in the office where you might come in 1 or 2 days weekly
  3. Full-time in the office where you are in most days

For options 1 and 2, we're looking at letting people book a desk in advance instead of occupying a desk full time. This is known as 'hoteling' or 'hot desking' and will allow us to reduce our real-estate footprint. We currently have way more room than we need but we will eventually outgrow our space and we would like to minimize how many times we need to move. Vanilla has already occupied 6 offices in Montreal.

Being a hybrid-distributed company creates some other challenges around communications and culture. We want to make sure that as an employer we provide everyone with the same work and growth opportunities and so we will undoubtedly need to put some effort into this.
