I made some translation changes. Here is what you need to watch out for

Hi all. Over the weekend I did some significant changes to our translations. When these roll out here is what you need to watch out for.

  • Most of our really common locales didn't get significant changes because they were already well translated. I think Italian had quite a few fixes though.
  • I removed some locales that have few translations and are not in use. If I made a mistake then a customer might lose the appearance of all of their translations. If this happens let me know and I will restore ASAP.
  • I filled in missing translations with a lot of machine translation. This should be an overall good, but some people might see machine translations as worse than having English mixed in. If this happens then I would encourage them to let us know or go into Transifex and improve the translations directly.
  • I added some automated tests around strings with special replacement patterns (ex. %s, <0></0>). This will be something that will really help us maintain higher quality strings in the future as they pertain to a functioning application. However, I had to make a lot of fixes which were all not in languages I know how to speak and were all manual. You may see increased reports of bad translations. In this case ask for help like in the point above.

I just want to let you all know because of the shear number of translations I went through is very large. Utlimately, this will be a case of short term pain for a longer term boost in quality.
