Demo from the Devs

  • New Editor shown by @charrondev -- showed how the new editor will work with quotes, added a spoiler tag (still WIP), adding code blocks and the easy image upload. We got lots of time to see @slafleche and his cosmic pizza used as an example.
  • @slafleche showed off updates to the emojis. There will be 1500 emojis and by using react, they will load fast. There will also have some category selectors to make choices for members faster. We will be moving away from custom emoji sets.
  • Search,Ideas and Questions added to API Controller from @DaazKu
  • New Vanilla Icon for System.
  • @Ryan worked on Ranks API. Will be able to assign ranks over API.
  • @Todd showed off new sign up look and feel for social connect.

Weekly Meeting

  • During our weekly meeting, @Linc shared a link to our roadmap. You can check it out here
  • Cloudflare DDoS protection coming to Vanilla
  • There is a Vanilla retreat coming May 2018. Make sure to vote on the dates you can make. Don't face the wrath of @Tim

Devs were at Confoo
It was a little quiet last week with many of the devs being at Confoo. They will be sharing their experiences here.

Pet of the Week

Shauna's dog Charlie is this weeks pet of the week. Here is her story:

Charlie was adopted from the Montreal SPCA last August. She was previously tied up outside for most of her life and seized by the city at the age of 4 and a half. She lived with another family who were shocked to discover that a 101 lb German Shepherd required a great deal of exercise (!) and returned her to the SPCA. Luckily for me, because so long as she gets her exercise (about an hour in the morning and an hour at night, anyone considering a German Shepherd...) she is one of the smartest and most loyal dogs I've had the pleasure of knowing.

I’ve always adopted rescues, which are typically mutts, and at first I did not believe the SPCA’s DNA test saying she was 100% German Shepherd due to her size, and some research revealed that she is likely an East European (sometimes called DDR) Shepherd, (interesting read for history lovers and dog lovers alike!) due to her humongous wolf-like head, super long tail, and large size.

Her hobbies include following me around from room to room, opening the bathroom door while I'm trying to pee and sitting on my head to wake me up for morning walkies (yes that's what that scratch on my face is from). One day, she hopes to actually catch a squirrel, though up til now it's been more of a Wile E. Coyote situation.

She might be big, but she's got an even bigger heart --- here she is watching, but not stealing, 8 lb Juno's share of the dog scraps.
