Web app and the touch icon

Hi Team - I had a few prospects recently ask about a native app. @Vlad and @Rhys showed me exactly how to use the web app with the touch icon in lieu of a native app.

Using our web app, you can create an icon on any mobile device that looks exactly like a native app. This is very simple and requires a one step option for customers to have instant access to the community on their mobile device. Even easier than downloading an app!

A few benefits to using your community in this manner:

  • More control and flexibility for user experience: what experience do you want you customers to have? With a native app from Influitive, you are beholden to their app whereas with Vanilla, you still have control over user experience
  • Device independent: works on any mobile device
  • Product Updates and New Features: when we release a new feature or product updates, it is automatically available
  • Installation: no need to install an app! And when there an update, any new product updates and features are automatically added to your community without any need to update an app or have to re-upload the app to the app stores and wait for the respective OS to approve the updated app to the community
  • Security: all of the same great security capabilities of Vanilla are in place
  • Ticket deflection: members can browse our community without joining the clients mobile app (in accordance with permissions). A lot of ticket deflection involves a customer finding the answer without having to create an account.
  • Gamification: you can still get all of the great features!

Here is a screenshot of my demo site on my phone. And an icon that looks like a native app that takes you to the community.

This is a different way to approach an app that gives you more flexibility and control and allows YOU to design the user experience, not the app itself. In addition, using Vanilla this way also provides admins and moderators the ability to use the community from any device rather than only a desktop.

In any case, this was new to me so thought I would share :)

(And I don't really play Candy Crush so no judgement...I use it for demos! ?)
