SEO Questions from current opportunity

I figure this would be the best place to ask since knowledge that isn't share is lost. I have some SEO questions from an opportunity I am working. I would qualify this as an Enterprise opp due to sheer size of the forum. They are French media company so all they really care about is SEO.

Questions:

  • Is it possible in the back office to edit the meta tag: title, meta, HN,
  • Is it possible in the back office to make URL redirects and add canonical rules?
  • Can we add rich snippet?
  • does your forum software allow to configure the robot txt?
  • How do you handle CrossLinking? will we be able to add it?
  • What about the no follow links, do you manage it?
  • Is your pagination SEO friendly?
  • Is it possible in the back office to make URL redirects and add canonical rules?
  • What about the no follow links, do you manage it?
  • We use Botify for monitoring our SEO. Currently,it's taking. logs from AWS to the monitoring. Is it a practice that you are comfortable with?we deposit on a bucket S3 access log from our website every day at 4 AM. Regarding EU GDPR, we must anonymize our IP MD5

For the last question about Botify, I asked for a clarification on how that product works.

Back office = dashboard.

    Hey @BrendanParm

I will answer your questions with the preface that you should share this with them - so they understand what the focus on hosted forum SEO should be

    • Is it possible in the back office to edit the meta tag: title, meta, HN
    • You can control the meta tags of the site, the rest is auto-generated from title of forum post and content. They can modify if they want, but it is not from the "back office". As you can imagine, per post editing of title/meta tag does not make sense for forums. They are using a blog mindset for their forum

    • Is it possible in the back office to make URL redirects and add canonical rules?
    • They can create a redirect if they move a url, with routes, or by choosing that option when they move a discussion. Canonical is autogenerated to the main discussion

    • Can we add rich snippet?
    • This requires custom theming. Which rich snippets are they looking for? We do use Json-LD where appropriate for a forum.

    • does your forum software allow to configure the robot txt?
    • This requires custom development. I don't believe we currently allow this.

    • How do you handle CrossLinking? will we be able to add it?
    • They need to explain what they mean. - I think they mean redirects. Maybe?

    • What about the no follow links, do you manage it?
    • All links in user generated content are no-follow by default

    • Is your pagination SEO friendly?
    • Yes. Search Engines do not have issues crawling multiple pages

    • Is it possible in the back office to make URL redirects and add canonical rules?
    • They can create a redirect if they move a url, with routes, or by choosing that option when they move a discussion. Canonical is autogenerated to the main discussion (duplicate from above

    • What about the no follow links, do you manage it?
    • All links in user generated content are no-follow by defaul t(duplicate from above)

    • I can't answer this - this is an ops question I think.

    Hope that helps! :)

I don't believe customers have access to modify routes so is this really an option for them at all?

I've found a few sources that indicated that cross-linking seems to be when you link to other content from another domain on your website.

I suppose that's really no differen than me saying "Well I read about what cross linking is on business.com - however, because all UGC links in Vanilla are set to no follow does this mean that there wouldn't be any SEO benefit?

I should add that it appears on their current forum the UGC links are set to NoFollow as well so perhaps they do mean something else?
