3rd Party Search - Aloglia

Drift is looking to replace our search with Aloglia. Do we have other clients who've used a 3rd party tool to replace our search? Can it be done? How does it work?

Technically any search tool can be used. Here are some of the things they need to consider:

    • How it will be inserted into the community - which could either be by pocket or by custom theme ($$).
    • Where the results will show - because we don't have a way for them to add a custom search page without custom work (and the hardest bit - imho)

They could also do offsite, and then there is no real difference than the federated search that Qualtrics did (with Search API), or from what I understand Pure Storage uses SearchUnify. Or when I was poor using Google or DuckDuckGo custom search. It really gets down to the experience they want.

In short it's doable, but it takes an understanding of the experience they want and if they have dev help/$$$ to get a further integration.

    If they want a turn-key plugin - I think that's a estimates@vanillaforums.com requirement.

    Hope that helps.

@Adrian For what it's worth, when I showed the TSIA the Qualtrics federated search they felt strongly it was likely Coveo (which they also use) that powers their search. I suppose it would have to be Vanilla's search API for the community content but I don't know enough about how Coveo works to be sure. Perhaps it was more the UI they were referring to.

  • Yes - the question is if it's a separate space, or if they want it fully integrated as the search bar on the Vanilla community.

  • Fun fact: Algolia co-founder was in our Open Source community in 2014. https://open.vanillaforums.com/discussion/comment/219878/#Comment_219878

They never built a connector, sadly.
