Most effective way to mass communicate to your community

Hello Vanilla,

I have a prospective customer whose looking for the most effective way to mass-communicate to their community. They do not currently have a great marketing automation tool (they use something they built in-house) and that only messages users who are subscribed to the newsletter.

They're looking for a way to update their community members about an event or release notes as an example. I did tell them Vanillas isn't an email client/list serv but they did say this is their biggest gap right now.

Their ideal scenario:

There would exist a way to send a mass email to their customers from the platform.

A secondary concession scenario:

There would exist a way to mass PM users about an event/release notes in the community? Perhaps via API?

-We have announcements & moderation messages as a way of promoting information.

I know it sounds like they want to use Vanilla as a marketing automation tool but that's what happens when you come up against HL in a sales cycle. I am wondering if there'a decent workaround some of your customers have used or you simply have just thought of to effectively mass communicate within the community itself.

Comments

  • Do they wish to notify them the next time they log on to the Community, or do they want to reach out to them?

If the former, then notifications or announcements (dismissible) seems the way to go.

If the latter it would have to be some sort of email.... perhaps Mail Chimp, although I'm not really sure what mail chimp does.

Does our API allow them to push a private message to each member in their community?

  • Rapidminerr's community manager does this, using the Vanilla endpoints. However, due to rate limits, he uses the rapidminer software to have it run over night without exceeding rate limits.
