Featured Discussions Addon - Can we Use it?
There's an addon called Featued Discussions. The only place I've ever seen it used is on the Edmunds forum (https://forums.edmunds.com/). The way it works is there's a special Featured Discussion reaction that Admins have access to (like Promote) and it Features the discussion thereby sending it to this module.

I recall from a previous informal conversation with @Adam Charron that the associated module for featured discussions would require a bit of theming work.
The idea of featuring content in this way comes up A LOT. The notion of a Featered Content MVP is pretty high in the CAB list of product requests. Basically we're looking for the replacement for the Role Tracker.
This featured discussion addon is different than what a Role Tracker provides you but would be extremely useful. It's important to note that we're a forum software but we sell it as a community software and this notion of highlighting official posts from the Community Managers.
-I want to know what we need to do to be able to use this with other clients
-Can a read me be made to or short doc on how to theme it?
This would really help CSMs and probably Sales out if there was an way to promote content on the click of a button.

I believe that particular plugin (featured discussion) is poorly coded and we don't want to use it for any new clients.
We should enhance the promoted content module. Common requests include:
- Ability to "unpromote" posts
- there are issues with the number of results (since we filter out the content after we've requested a certain number of posts),
- filtering by language
- Core carousel styles for it.

Clients want to be able to select content individually that appears promoted in some fashion in an easy to use way. The best of isn't good because content can end up there any way.

@BrendanParm we can modify the promoted content to add that functionality.

We have a blanket policy that any addons only enabled on specific VIP sites must go thru services to be used anywhere else.
The answer to "Can I turn on X addon?" not already in the Dashboard is "No". The question is can services do something to make it usable for another context.
In this case, Edmunds' customization long predates the Role Tracker addon, so I have to assume it would be a regression technologically to base anything off of the Edmunds' plugin. I suggest getting a list of user stories together so that we can be on the same page when it's time to iterate on "featured content" next and produce something that actually meets all use cases we need to cover so we stop doing 1-offs.
