What Options does a client have for Sentiment Analysis
Hello,
This is a question coming from Tesla. They are wondering what options exist for Sentiment Ratio. I know we have 1 chart related to sentiment that is just counting positive and negative reactions ( if negative reactions are enabled) but I don't think that would be enough for them.
Do we know of any options that exist either as a customization or a 3rd party tool that could be integrated into the forums via pockets?

I don't think that would be enough for them.
What do they want to do exactly?

I imagine to track the type of sentiment found in the posts based on the types of words used.

They should look at Brandwatch

We used to offer sentiment analytics and discontinued it when the vendor went out of business (rather than replace it) because our customers generally did not think it added significant value. Our Advanced Analytics offering replaced it.

@Mel I apologize, the Sentiment Analysis is only for survey data
https://www.qualtrics.com/iq/text-iq/
(found out after dealing with another request about this)
It does not crawl the website, the way Brandwatch does.

King has been talking to me about Brandwatch and gave the following info. Apparently you can't JUST add the site to the list of URLs. We will have to investigate it a bit more.
Their original desire was to
pull all of our posts in to BW and use that to do qualitative analysis on the comments, including sentiment analysis. In order to do this, our forum API would need to be made accessible by BW.
I mentioned the same link that @Adrian shared:
He says that it appears there's 'something' that is done to the site to allow it to be properly crawled. He mentioned it appears to work on a lot of Lithium communities. He also showed me the following test showing the WoW forums as well as VisitScotland.
WoW - Blizzard Forums
VisitScotland
Any idea what that something is? He linked me to the API documentation. When I initially discussed this with @Linc he said it sounded like they would need a custom addon to create a webhook to push the forum content to BW.

@Tim Any idea if we're currently blocking this or if a VIP client could have it so that their isn't blocked by this crawler? https://www.brandwatch.com/legal/magpie-crawler/

We are not blocking them. Questions about blocking can be directed to support.

I'd be interested in finding out if our API is capable of playing nice with a third-party sentiment and topic analysis platform. It comes up on a regular basis as a very nice-to-have. (~1 in 5 VIP level deals)

I think the value of the Sentiment Analysis depends on both the quality of the vendor, and the quality of the client. As we move up market, we're running into higher quality clients that are used to higher quality Sentiment Analysis vendors that already own the space.

I have a contact at BrandWatch in product management. I will be chatting with them soon about a possible co-marketing opportunity for a white paper or webinar. I will keep you posted.

King had their BW CSM reach out to me and I was kind of hoping they would say "this is what you have to do" but instead they said "I heard you had already received the API documentation, do you have any specific questions". I then decided to look at the API documentation and realized it's only 3 pages long.
I can't upload attachments so if someone wouldn't mind taking a peak at it I can send it to you and perhaps we can have a better idea of the breath of work involved.

@brondo email it to me and I will upload it here. good to have in the forum

New editor seems to have an issue respecting PDF as a default filetype in the meantime
Here are the things to know
That's it. It seems we'd need fire something when content is posted, but it's not clear how it crawls existing content. I'll let the devs comment, though....

I asked the CSM of King at Brandwatch to find out whether or not we actually would have to do something to make it so King could use their BW tool to crawl their community site.
This was their response:
I've looked into your questions and I've provided a summary of my answers below.
You are right in saying that there are some mentions coming through from https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/, however these are very generic mentions which suggests that we attempted to crawl this forum but we couldn't crawl it fully - none of the discussions on this forum are available for instance, which is what Graham is looking for from King Care.
For the King forum, however, It would be useful if you could provide us with the RSS feeds or sitemaps as we couldn't find those on there.
So, moving forward, the best way to get information from the King Care forum would be for you to use our Resource Submission API would allow you to submit "Resources" (web pages) to be included into the Brandwatch index, allowing Graham and his team to access those through our platform afterwards. This content will then be available to all Brandwatch users hence why we will need you to sign a Legal Agreement prior to enabling you to use our API.
One thing is the CSM is a bit confused because she's referencing care.king.com but that's the site they are deprecating in favour of us.
So this essentially comes down to the fact that we need to make this adjustment to our product to make it possible for for BW to crawl our product. I think it's pretty clear that R&D doesn't have time for this right now but I am fairly certain we could get King to pay for this. I feel like it would make sense as Sponsored R&D work so that any client could benefit rather than only King given the nature of it.
I think at this point I am going to submit it to estimates@vanillaforums.com with the API document to see what Todd/Linc's official thoughts are on this.
